Denver Zoning:

DMCAR was heavily involved in the Denver Zoning Code Update—a five-year long process that replaced Denver’s 1956 zoning code with a new “form-based” and “context-sensitive code.” The new Code was adopted in late June 2011 and is in effect today. DMCAR has been the leading business group on issues pertaining to commercial property and has consistently been on the front lines with the City when it comes to planning and zoning. As a member of the Business and Retail Working Group (BRWG) our work resulted in 18 critical recommendations that were adopted in the new Code.

Denver Development Services:
Development Services’ goal is to make development easier in the City & County of Denver. Dating back to 2007, DMCAR advocated for the creation of a Development Services Department to “streamline” the development review process by creating one department with authority over all City agencies involved in the development review process (Zoning/Planning, Public Works, Denver Fire and Parks & Recreation). Before the creation of Development Services, applicants were left to navigate the difficult development review process on their own, bouncing between the various City review agencies with no help. Now, Development Services helps to guide applicants through the process and has the authority to resolve conflicts between departments.

DMCAR continues to meet regularly with Development Services leadership and staff to address development policy and process issues with the intention of removing the red tape and improving Denver’s development process. For more information, visit the Development Services Website below.
