Governmental Affairs

The Denver Metropolitan Commercial Association of REALTORS® (DMCAR) is a real estate trade association that provides governmental awareness, education, professional standards, and networking to nearly 2,000 real estate brokers and affiliated members who primarily practice in the Denver Metropolitan area.

Objectives:
Denver area governmental policies and actions directly influence the transfer and leasing of real properties. One of the objectives of DMCAR is to keep members informed about government issues related to commercial real estate such as zoning, development, and infrastructure construction.

Purpose:
To accomplish these objectives, in conjunction with the Denver Board of REALTORS®, DMCAR has a Governmental Affairs Committee, comprised of bi-partisan volunteers who have knowledge and interest in governmental affairs issues affecting real estate. The committee also retains the services of CRL Associates, a firm of consultants, researchers and lobbyists who specialize in governmental affairs. Jointly, the Governmental Affairs Committee and CRL Associates.

  • Monitor most of the municipalities within the Denver Metropolitan Area (Adams, Arapahoe, Denver, Jefferson, Douglas, and Boulder Counties).
  • Report to the DMCAR Board of Directors, any governmental actions proposed or implemented that would be advantageous or adverse to the transfer or leasing of residential real estate.
  • Help draft policies when DMCAR takes positions on issues.
  • Help raise funds for the Political Survival Fund (PSF).
  • Interview candidates for local elections and recommend support and endorsement.

There are a number of growing public policy issues unique to local government in the Denver metro area. DMCAR's Government Affairs Committee and Board of Directors continue to respond to legislative action taken by local government on a gamut of issues -- primarily those of housing, transportation, economic development, land use, tax and brownfields nature.
